McTimoney for Animals

Animals can suffer from back, neck and musculoskeletal problems just like people and can therefore benefit from the McTimoney treatment. McTimoney Chiropractic looks very much at the alignment of the whole animal whilst paying particular attention the spine and pelvis. The adjustments are very swift and are generally readily accepted by the animal many are relaxed during treatment. Many lameness’s and back problems can also be caused by other medical problems which is why it is essential that you gain veterinary consent prior to treatment.

When to seek help

This relies very much on your observations and subsequent referral from your veterinary surgeon. Many of the symptoms that could indicate that your animal could benefit from the McTimoney treatment include:

Dogs:

• Lameness where alternative causes have been ruled out.
• Uncharacteristic changes in performance, behaviour or temperament.
• Yelping out when stroking over a particular area.
• Difficulty carrying out activities that were previously easily executed e.g. jumping into the car, climbing the stairs.
• Stiffness getting up from lying down.
• Limb-dragging or odd, irregular action.
• Reluctance to exercise.
• Reoccurrence of symptoms previously successfully treated by chiropractic manipulation.
• Absence of any resolution of the problem, using conventional methods.

Horses

• Lameness where alternative causes have been ruled out.
• ‘Unlevelness’ particularly behind
• Cold Backed and tenderness along the back
• Changes in temperament e.g. biting when rugging and girthing up, removing their rugs.
• Stiffness on one rein
